Instead of an image of the shoe of the month we have a wonderful image of them being worn. So often, shoes donated to the Shoe Collection come with no personal history attached to them or, if they do, it is often one sentence to say who wore them and when. It is certainly a pretty rare event to actually have an image of the wearer in the shoes that have been donated.
This image shows Miss Stella Taylor (later Mrs Austin) in 1939 – 1940 wearing the ballet shoes that her son recently donated to the collection.
It is such a wonderful image and brings the shoes to life. Not only were the ballet shoes donated, they also came with their original box and receipts.
The famous ballet shoe manufacturers Porselli made these shoes and they are still selling ballet shoes today.
